Regulatory Compliance

A DCM service for regulatory compliance aims to help animal laboratories meet the requirements of the Animal Studies Committee Guidelines, the Federal Animal Welfare Act, and the NRC Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

Compliance with both the law and the "Guide" are mandatory at Washington University. Regulatory inspections are conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).

As representatives of the Animal Studies Committee, Gary Barron, B.A., LATg, and Gail Moore, B.S., R.V.T., LATg, S.R.S., visit laboratories where animal procedures are performed. They provide assistance towards compliance with the federal animal welfare laws and standards.
